CBCT Scans (Cone Beam CT)

3D imaging that provides detailed views of teeth, bone, and nerves, useful for implants and other complex treatment planning.

What is a CBCT scan?

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) produces a three-dimensional image of the teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures. Unlike traditional two-dimensional X-rays, CBCT allows your dentist to evaluate bone volume, nerve pathways, and spatial relationships more clearly.

CBCT is recommended when the additional detail is clinically useful, such as planning dental implants, assessing impacted teeth, or evaluating complex anatomy. It is not used for every routine visit.

How it fits into your care

If CBCT is recommended, your dentist will explain why the scan is helpful and how the images will guide treatment decisions. The scan itself is typically quick, and radiation exposure is kept as low as reasonably achievable for the diagnostic need.

Results are reviewed with you so you understand the findings and how they influence your options. CBCT complements digital X-rays and clinical examination rather than replacing them.
