Missing teeth? We have your solution
Ignoring gum recession can result in missing early detection and treatment of your overall dental health. Common issues for missing teeth are sports injuries and accident related. Replacing broken or missing teeth is not a rare occurrence.
Crestwood Dental Clinic offers our patients dental implants as a remedy to replace missing teeth. Yes, you may be a candidate for dental implants! If you’re healthy, have healthy gums and enough jaw bone to support an implant, this can be an option for you.
However, if your jawbone is underdeveloped or has shrunk, a bone graft can be used to build bone. You will be notified by your dentist if bone grafting is a feasible option for you.
How does a bone graft procedure work?
The bone graft procedure involves the removal of bone from another region of your body with the use of a special bone grafting material. The piece of bone is then grafted into your jawbone and given time to heal. Ideally, to create healthy new and strong replacement bone for the implant to secure itself in.
Made of titanium, dental implants are carefully placed in the jawbone where they act as an artificial tooth root. A dental implant is inserted into your jawbone to replace the root of your natural tooth. Acting as an anchor to hold the replacement tooth, the artificial tooth is attached to the implant in your jawbone. Eventually, the bone will grow around the implant giving it strength like a natural root. To complete the implant, a dental crown – designed to blend in with your natural teeth – is placed on top of the implant, and secured in place.
